New year, new trends: these are a few of our favorite 2020 wedding trends.

We made it through the holidays, and here we are, mid January. Can you believe it? We’re still in the midst of engagement season, at least until mid-February, and it’s got me thinking about all things “wedding.” With a new year comes new trends, and I’m excited to say that I’ve been reading up on 2020 wedding trends. As much as I hate to see 2019 go, I’m ready to welcome in this new decade and can’t wait to see where it takes us in the wedding world. There are so many trends that I’m excited about, so it was hard to narrow down this list. But, I did it! I picked five of my favorite 2020 wedding trends, so read on to learn more about them.

The green wedding.

It’s all about sustainability these days, and for good reason too. We’ve got to stop putting the climate on the backseat, and one of the best ways to do that is by taking it upon ourselves to make small changes in our everyday lives. Think wisely about your choices when you’re planning out your special day. There are so many opportunities to choose “green” when it comes to your wedding. From food, to party favors, to recycling… it all adds up. For more on eco-friendly weddings, go here.

Micro-weddings.

A micro-wedding typically consists of about 20 people or less. How fitting for 2020, right!? Personally, I love the idea of a micro-wedding. And honestly, it brings me some relief. I’m not the type of gal who has 10 best friends lined up at the ready to be my bridesmaids. Yeah, I’ve got a few super close friends that I’d love to have stand by side, but that’s about it. So the idea of a micro wedding is very appealing to me. It just seems that much more intimate and special.

Color. Pastels are finally out.

I love seeing all the pops of color that are trending for 2020. I’m so happy to hear that metallic and pastel are out, and I’m thrilled about the vibrant indigo blues and dusty, warm terracotta colors that are moving in. If I had to pick a favorite color combo, I’d say golden yellow, toffee brown, and champagne without a doubt.

Apparently, gin is in.

I’m already a big gin drinker, so I’m excited to see gin take the spotlight. If you’re planning a wedding in North Carolina, opt for a gin made locally. Believe it or not, NC makes some great gins at a variety of different price points. I’m a fan of Cardinal Gin and Conniption. Gin is super versatile, and can be used in a variety of surprising ways. You’ve got options that extend way beyond your typical G&T.

Non-traditional wedding dresses.

It’s the year for all or nothing. Dress trends for 2020 are interesting. They’re either going in the minimalist direction, think long, smart shapes with clean lines and minimal beading or lace. Or they’re going in the edgy direction, with chic slits and sheer fabrics. Regardless of the year’s trends, I’m a huge advocate for just picking something that you love and feel confident in. After all, it’s your day.

Feeling inspired yet?

Hopefully these trends left you feeling as inspired as they did me. I can’t wait to see how things shift as the year progresses. I’m sure we’ll see even more unexpected trends as we move into wedding season. In the meantime, happy planning! And if you’re thinking about a North Carolina wedding, don’t forget us!
