Over the past couple of weeks I’ve started to notice more and more trucks laden with Christmas trees headed down the mountain. ‘Tis the season. Tree stands are bound to be popping up left and right off the mountain. Those are nice and all, but why not make a trip out of it and head to the mountains to find the perfect tree? We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite choose and cut Christmas tree farms that are perfect for the whole family. So read on, and start planning your trip!
1. Cornett & Deal Tree Farm
This farm is located about 30 minutes away from our downtown Boone homes and about 20 minutes from our farmhouse in Trade, TN. You’re sure to find the perfect tree at this farm. There are five fields to choose from, and two varieties of tree: Fraser and Canaan Firs. Enjoy hayrides to the fields of your choosing. And don’t forget to pop into the gift shop, where you’ll find an assortment of handmade crafts. Our favorite thing about this farm? The history. We just love that it’s family owned and operated, and that the owners have been calling these Blue Ridge Mountains home since 1904.
2. Circle C Tree Farms
Looking for a Christmas tree farm right in town? Circle C Tree Farms is just a short 9 minute drive from our downtown Boone houses. Expect the drive to be a bit longer though if you’re coming from the farmhouse. Circle C is also a family farm, and this land is the same land that owner Dennis Cook’s grandfather settled on many years ago. The farm has a colorful history, and everything from potatoes to cattle have been raised on the land over the years. Enjoy complimentary hot chocolate in the Circle C barn. You can shop wreaths and garland there, too.
3. Panoramic View Christmas Tree Farm
Are you looking for a Christmas tree experience? Well, look no further. Although I’ve never personally been to this farm, their website looks great! This farm is located 15 minutes from our downtown Boone houses, and 30 minutes from the farmhouse. They not only offer the traditional choose and cut experience, but they also offer horseback rides, hayrides, and there are even cows and newborn calves that you can pet and feed. There are beverages and snacks available, and the farm is pet friendly (just like our vacation rental homes).
Get into the holiday spirit with these kid friendly weekend festivities.
Come up this weekend to get your tree and enjoy the Blowing Rock Christmas parade. The parade is on Saturday, November 30th. Believe it or not, this is one of the longest parades in the state, featuring everything from community floats to antique cars. The parade kicks off at 2pm on Main Street.
If you plan on tree shopping during that time, consider going to Blowing Rock on Friday afternoon instead for the Lighting of the Town celebration. This event kicks off at 3pm and lasts until 8pm. It’s held in Memorial Park, right downtown, and features tons of kid friendly activities. To read more about these events, click here.
Not planning on coming up so soon? Plan your trip for a later date and enjoy other holiday festivities in and around Boone, NC. Read up on local events by clicking here. I think it also goes without saying that there are so many great Christmas tree farms in our area. If you have a favorite, share it with us! We’d love to hear about your traditions.
